Why banning Qwami Madrasa-based research Novel ‘Bishfonra’ would not be declared illegal—asks High court
The High court has issued a rule asking why the ban on ‘Bishfonra’, a research novel based on child rape and torture in Qwami Madrasa, would not be declared illegal. On Tuesday, a high court bench comprised of Justice Md. Mozibur Rahman Miah and Justice Mohi Uddin passed the order conducting hearing on a writ petition filed by Advocate Imtiaz Mahmood.
The Public Security Division Secretary and the Senior Assistant Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs have been asked to reply within 10 days.
Advocate Imtiaz Mahmood lodged the writ petition on September 22 on behalf of the novel’s writer Saiful Baten Tito.
Terming as a threat to public safety the home ministry on June 18 imposed a ban on the book which was published during this year’s Amar Ekushey Granthamela. The cabinet division issued a gazette notification over the prohibition later on August 22.
